When I first moved to Portland, one of the very first designers that caught my eye was Claire La Faye. I remember reaching out to her, hoping to get a chance to work with her gorgeous designs, but unfortunately the timing was off. In my mind though, I told myself, "I'm not good enough... yet." But that didn't stop me from trying several additional times over the next year or two. It's always good to set goals for yourself that make you think "I'm getting there," when you've finally accomplished them. And so Claire was one of those goals. Fast forward to today, and we've not only worked together once, but twice. I'm so honored to have her incredible gowns in my portfolio.
This particular shoot didn't start out with any grand vision. Cassie Meder and I had always wanted to do a test shoot together, but again, timing was always off. Finally we decided to make it happen, but only intended a casual test shoot in my studio. But when inspiration hits, it's wise not to ignore it. As we brainstormed ideas for our shoot, I was more and more inspired by the likes of Paolo Roversi, Tim Walker, and other high-fashion Vogue-style spreads. I knew that to pull off the look, I needed extravagant gowns – and Claire was the obvious choice. Her designs with beautiful makeup and hair styling from Christine Shields and utilizing some borrowed props from my painter studio-mate, we brought that high-fashion inspiration to life.
